The New Jersey Wrestling Writers Association has released its Preseason Top 20 for the 2013-2014 season.
Bergen Catholic is the unanimous No. 1 selection after finishing last year 19-1, the only loss coming to last year's top team South Plainfield.
In the Morris County area, Delbarton starts the season at No. 6 while Hanover Park enters the poll at No. 12. Both squads return nearly its entire lineup from last season. While Delbarton will have a tough time winning its section with Bergen Catholic, St. Peter's Pred and Don Bosco potential opponents. Hanover Park's move to North 2, Group 2 should yeild the program another sectional title but perennial powers High Point and South Plainfield potentially await in the Group Championships.
Kittatinny also makes the poll at No. 8 with a stacked lineup even with the loss of Tom Murphy to Pope John.
The NJWWA consists of 17 voting members. Results of its weekly poll will appear in participating newspapers every Tuesday beginning Jan. 7, and online at the websites of participating media outlets every Monday beginning Jan. 6.
Region V ranking chairman Ron Mazzola has succeeded former NJWWA member Bob Behre as the association’s president.
