Last week, the following occurred:
Rumson-Fair Haven, then ranked No. 10, knocked off then No. 4 St. John Vianney, which was without two starters.
Cranford, then ranked No. 20, defeated then No. 17 Delaware Valley. That result came a week after Delaware Valley had defeated then unbeaten Caldwell.
Then, a tri-meet involving Paramus Catholic, Don Bosco Prep and St. Augustine had the following results:
Paramus Catholic defeat Don Bosco Prep; St. Augustine defeat Paramus Catholic and Don Bosco Prep defeat St. Augustine. Plus, earlier this season, Pope John defeated both Paramus Catholic and St. Augustine.
Part of the confusion stems from not knowing what lineups teams are going to have in certain matches. There have been a lot of big matches across the state this season, where at least one team, and sometimes both teams did not have their best lineup for a variety of reasons.
The big mover in this week’s rankings is:
Rumson-Fair Haven, which moves up to No. 6. The Bulldogs have defeated No. 15 Brick Memorial, North Hunterdon, which was ranked No. 18 at the time, No. 11 Phillipsburg and No. 7 St. John Vianney in their last four matches.
There is also movement in the last eight spots in the rankings due to last week’s results.
Here is this week’s NJWWA Top 20 with first-place votes in parentheses followed by voting points.
The rankings will run each Tuesday during the dual-meet season.
