Cup o’ Joe Week 6

By Joe Hofmann

The Morris County Tournament seeding meeting is Thursday night at Mount Olive, so let’s get right to the picks for each weight class, as well as some overall thoughts.

The toughest weight figures to be at either 113 or 120 pounds, depending on where Hanover Park’s defending state champion Anthony Cefolo goes. If he goes to 113, there could be an excellent final with Cefolo possibly matched against Jefferson’s Bryan Damon, who has improved tremendously over last year and is capable of placing in AC. The weight also features a returning state seventh-placer (Randolph’s A.J. Vindici), plus Whippany Park’s Matt Mastrobuono and Delbarton’s Nick Farro.

At 120, there are quality wrestlers galore. Delbarton’s Christian Innarella was sixth in the state at 113 last year. West Morris’ Cory Fleming has a win over Randolph’s Vindici this winter. Roxbury’s Devon LaFranco made the states last year. Hanover Park’s Austin Nash is another one to watch, if Cefolo drops.

The best bets to win their weights are Delbarton’s Nick Anderson (132), Roxbury’s Dillon Artigliere (160), Montville’s Parker Meytrott (170), and Morris Knolls’ Mike Burns (182).

Here are the weight-by-weight picks:

106: Ty Agaisse (Delbarton).

113: Bryan Damon (Jefferson).

120: Anthony Cefolo (Hanover Park).

126: Gennaro Cuccolo (Hanover Park).

132: Nick Anderson (Delbarton).

138: Nick Matthews (West Morris).

145: Brandon Carcuffe (West Morris).

152: Luke Bohn (Jefferson).

160: Dillon Artigliere (Roxbury).

170: Parker Meytrott (Montville).

182: Michael Burns (Morris Knolls).

195: Nick D’Uva (Parsippany Hills).

220: Pete Andrich (Mount Olive).

285: Nick LaShell (Hanover Park).

Predicted team champion: Delbarton is the clear choice due to its depth. The Green Wave have a lot of talent scattered throughout their lineup and have done well in the biggest venues: The Beast of the East, Brick Memorial Tournament, the Pit at Phillipsburg, and at the recent quad at Southern where Delbarton beat Southern and Jackson but lost to St. Peter’s Prep. Talent plus a great schedule equals a fifth straight MCT team championship.
